The Whites!

I was looking forward to this weekend for weeks. Finally i feel like im starting to settle into this new life. I have been on a few weekend road trips but have been very excited about my first trip to the White Mountains. I had a few maps and seemed to be over whelmed with all the information before i set out to explore. So this weekend was set aside to do just that. Being patriotic i had to light off a some fireworks before setting off for the mountains! I was lucky to share a fireworks show in Merrimack with Jo and family! Love the small town atmosphere.

The plan: set out for Mt Garfield with the idea to summit. Reality, once reaching Galehead Mt we determined that it was better to stop there! I was not prepared for how strenous a 9.6 mile hike could be.
Some pictures shot during the trip.

At the AMC shelter headed towards the Galehead Summit ( On Right) Letting my feet and body breath a little. Especially after slipping and soaking my foot in a stream halfway up!

Crossroads where we chose to head to Galehead instead of Garfield.

The Basin
The beautiful waterfall at the Basin, has at its base, a granite pothole 20 feet in diameter. It is believed to have been eroded 15,000 years ago while the North American ice sheet was melting. It has been smoothed by small stones and sand whirled around by the Pemigewasset River. Below the Basin is a water-eroded rock formation called the Old Man's foot.
Henry David Thoreau visited this place in September of 1839. He must of stood right where I did, and wrote that “this pothole is perhaps the most remarkable curiosity of its kind in New England”. Samuel Eastman in his 1858 White Mountain Guide called this spot “One of the beautiful haunts of Nature, a luxurious and delicious bath fit for the ablutions of a goddess”.

I love this swamp!

Im Back

Hiking Mt Monadnock a few weeks ago.

Hello everyone! I know i have been a huge slacker and not updating my News very often, BUT! I am going to be back at it now that i am settled. Long story short, I am now a resident of Nashua NH. I started working at Nemo Equipment as Art Director. Nemo is an awesome, small company. Only six years old Nemo produces very high quality tents. Some of the tents offer a system known as AST ( Air Support System) that uses air bladders instead of traditional poles, not only is it stronger, and more resilient , but lighter weight as well. SO far i have been very involved in designing and producing the catalog along with other smaller tasks. I love the creativity that this job offers.

As far as local trails go there are a lot, Nashua is unique because within and hours drive i can be in Boston, the coast of maine, White Mountains, or West to Keene. The Mt biking trails close to my house are a lot of fun as well. My commute is 5 miles and i ride my bike as much as i can. In the next few weeks I am planning to really dig deep to find places to continue to photograph wildlife and birds. I am realizing it takes time. I have also set up my studio and plan to add some shots of that to the blog next time i write. i will try to write at least once a week from here on !
Thanks for stopping back check back soon

Art Show This Saturday!

Hello,
I wanted to write a quick email letting you know about an art show I am having this Saturday the 10th. Its kind of spontaneous because of a few things going on in my life. A few weeks ago I decided to make some life changes and leave Cannondale and the area I love so much in search of new challenges. I have accepted a job as Art Director for an outdoor company called Nemo Equipment in Nashua, New Hampshire. I am excited about this new challenge and look forward to expanding my fine art and photography side as well. In a celebration an art show seemed to be a great idea. The art will continue to hang for a a few weeks following the show at Bethel Photoworks. Please spread the word!

Show details:
Place: Bethel Photo Works 14 Depot Place • Bethel CT • 06801 • ( 203 • 748 • 1999 )
Date/Time : Saturday May 10th 4-7pm
Bonus: Wine, Beer and appetizers. Featuring 4 new pieces never shown in public! I will also have limited, numbered prints as well.

Because I am moving I would love to sell some local art while still here. I am
Hope you can make it
sincerely

More antlers!!

Earlier this winter just after a snowstorm I went for a long hike up along a ridge near my house. I was surprised to find large single beds in the snow that were spread out away from each other. I realized what I found was a buck bedding area. Differing from doe bedding areas where many beds will be close to each other bucks tend to spread out away from each other and away from does. In a last ditch effort to find an antler or two that may have fallen off I marked that spot on my GPS so I can investigate it when the snow melts. My theory is that if the bucks are bedding there then they are spending the majority of their day there, thus increasing the chance of the antlers falling off there. This weekend I headed out to this spot and started to walk it in a grid fashion where I basically picked out an area of about 5-10 acres and walked in lines about 40 yards apart carefully inspecting the ground. After about 25 minutes of focused searching I was relieved to find my first antler of the day...within 2 more hours I had 4 more! With my eyes getting tired and the sun getting low I decided to head back home and try again the next day. Sunday I arrived at the same location and continued to scour the area using my GPS to avoid covering the same spot twice. Within 3 hours I found six more antlers as well as a shell from a box turtle which is quite rare as well. Check out the pictures, you can see how close 2 of them were, this would suggest that the deer was laying down when the antlers fell off proving my theory. What a rewarding weekend!

First shed of the year!!

Last weekend I found my first antler shed. Looks as if it had JUST fallen off the night before. Now with the snow all melted I plan to get back out in the woods in full force this weekend and continue the search. My ultimate goal is to make a chandelier out of all these antlers. Hopefully something like this.

I finished the painting of Dexter! Its been over a year since I started it.

Have a great weekend.
